  •           On May 26, 2012, Honorary Editor-in-Chief, Academician Kuang-di Xu came to Shanghai University Library to give his guidance and advice to the launch of the new journal Advances in Manufacturing. Professor Xin-hui Yu, Party Secretary, and Professor Hong-jie Luo, President of Shanghai University, attended the meeting. Also attended are Professor Qi-jie Zhai, Director of the University's Disciplinary Development Office; Professor Na Qin, Director of the University's Periodicals Agency; Dr. Zhi-qiang Liu, Deputy Director of the Periodicals Agency; and Dr. Hai-qing Chen, Director of the Editorial Office.
Having listened to the work report given by Professor Qin on the preparation of the new journal, Academician Xu emphasized that the manufacturing in the journal's title and mentioned in the inaugural statement should be understood as focusing on innovation and upgrading of the industries. The covered areas must be expanded to a wide variety of fields in the national economy such as textile, agriculture, and medicine. Special attention should be given to the real economy and key projects like express railways, subway constructions, etc., from which we would be able to find potential sources of invited contributions and keynote papers. Academician Xu pointed out that, when forming the editorial board, both international scholars and experts from various fields of manufacturing in China should be kept in an appropriate proportion. He suggested that subjects and major contents be announced prior to the publication of each special issue for greater impact, and the Engineering Science and Technology Forum held monthly by the Chinese Academy of Engineering be frequently visited for more high quality submissions.
President Luo expressed sincere thanks to Academician Xu for spending much time to give guidance and valuable instructions to the journal, and presented the Letter of Appointment to Academician Xu as the Honorary Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Manufacturing .
